What We Believe

Shepherd of the Hills United Church of Christ is an Open and Affirming Congregation which accepts the uniqueness of each person as a gift of God. We share a life together in work and worship, in prayer and in play. Our love of God is manifested through our compassionate care for all God’s children.

Celebrating over 60 years of bringing faith, hope, and love to the Valley of the Sun, our Congregationalist roots actually date back to the founding of this country. Throughout our church's history, the United Church of Christ has been at the forefront of social justice, leading the way for freedom in such issues as slavery, women’s rights, and the right to worship together regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation. We hope you will take the time to visit us. You will experience the energy and love that have kept generations returning.

Since 1959, we have shared a life together in work and worship, prayer and in play. Our love of God is manifested through our compassionate care for all God’s children.

At Shepherd of the Hills, we celebrate our faith by coming together as a community to gather in God’s presence, hear God’s Word proclaimed, respond in prayer and song, and depart encouraged to do God’s work in the world.

In addition to gathering on Sundays, we celebrate Worship throughout the Christian seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter, and we gather for other events that mark milestones and passages in the lives of our family of faith.

This is my commandment: love each other just as I have loved you.
— John 15:12- CEB

Shepherd of the Hills promotes the love of God within our faith community, throughout the Valley of the Sun and our wider global community through public action and public service.

Shepherd of the Hills UCC is an Open and Affirming Congregation.  We welcome all of God's children.  We really mean it when we say "No matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here." You will be greeted and appreciated for the story of life which you bring to our community of faith. Together, sharing and affirming all of our journeys we live the authentic Christian community as we encourage, support, develop and empower each other for our shared ministry.

We support Marriage Equality across all 50 states. We celebrate that persons can now be judged on the strength of their character and not on their love life, that children can be raised in loving households knowing that both parents have full legal rights on behalf of their children and their spouses.

Check out our denomination's LGBT pages at UCC.org and Believe Out Loud.

Do you promise, by the grace of God,
to be Christ’s disciple,
to follow in the way of our Saviour,
to resist oppression and evil,
to show love and justice,
and to witness to the work and word of Jesus Christ
as best you are able?
